Kits

What's in a kit?

Panels, a microinverter, a stand or frame and a 4m cable with a fitted UK plug. Ballast isn't included.

How much power goes into my home?

Up to 800W (799VA) at any moment while the sun's on the panels. Your home uses it before anything comes from the grid.

Which kit should I get?

The one that fits your sunny space. The kit finder filters by space, mount and panels.

Is there an app?

Yes. The microinverter connects by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to an app that shows what the kit is making.

Do you sell accessories or bundles?

They're coming soon. You don't need any to get started.

Does it work in a power cut?

No. It switches off when the grid goes off, to keep people working on the network safe.

Rules

Do I need an electrician?

Not to set the kit up. You need a weatherproof outdoor socket within the 4m cable and modern RCD protection in your fuse box. If you don't have those, an electrician can fit or check them. Kits with more than 960W of panels (the Plus 1030W and Max 1260W) should have a professional check of the electrics either way.

Do I have to register it?

Yes, free at myplugin.solar before you first use it. The North East's network operator is Northern Powergrid.

Can I have two kits?

No. It's one kit per household.

Can I use it with a home battery?

No, never.

Can it go on a balcony?

No. These kits aren't for balconies.

Can a kit go on my house wall?

Wall or ground kits can, after a professional assessment. The maker requires one before any wall, flat-roof or raised install. Ground kits stay on the ground.

I rent. Can I have one?

Get written permission from your landlord first. The same goes if you're leasehold or in a managed building.

Do I tell my insurer?

Yes, before you set the kit up.

Can I use an extension lead?

No. The 4m cable goes straight into the outdoor socket, with no extension leads, reels or adaptors.

Where can't kits be used?

Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
